UPDATE: Given the nature of the Covid-19 pandemic, all Religious Ed and CGS in-person classes are cancelled for the rest of this school year. Christy Whiting and the catechists will be in touch with parents directly with ways to help their children grow in their faith at home.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

CGS meets after the 9am Mass, from 10:30am – 12:30pm.

This program is a hands-on and Montessori-based approach to faith formation, seeking to: deepen the child’s existing relationship with God, encourage formation of a personal prayer life, enable a fuller participation in liturgical and sacramental life of the Church, and develop a deeper understanding of Catholic identity and tradition. Intended for ages 3 – 9, or pre-school – grade 3. Children must be 3 years old by Sept. 1, 2019.

Pope St. John Paul II visited a CGS classroom and described it as “the most beautiful homily I have ever witnessed.” Read about it here.

Visit cgsusa.org for the national website and more information.

Registration for CGS is now closed. Registration for the 2020 – 2021 school year will open here in August 2020.

Religious Education – Grades 2-6

Classes are Sunday mornings following the 9:00am Mass, from 10:30am – 12noon.

Children are introduced to Jesus and the Catholic Faith in classic classroom style. Teachers engage the children through the readings, conversations, and age-appropriate activities.

The second grade curriculum is Blessed, by Dynamic Catholic.

Grades 3 – 6 use the Faith and Life series, from Ignatius Press.

If you would like to register a student for Grades 2 – 6 Religious Education, contact Christy Whiting at 517-655-2520 or stmary.christy@gmail.com.

RCIA for Children

This program is available for families with children over the age of seven who are either seeking initiation into the Church or who have not received one or more of the following sacraments: Baptism, First Reconciliation, or First Communion. We strongly encourage at least one parent to attend every class so the journey toward sacramental reception is one of shared learning and experiences.

Because we work individually with each child, please contact us directly to make arrangements.
