Born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and later in Ann Arbor, Fr. Mark grew up in a Catholic home with three brothers. He first heard and discerned a call to the priesthood at age 13 while participating in a Franciscan University of Steubenville Youth Conference in 1997. Growing up he attended Catholic schools, public schools, home schooled, and has even dropped out of high school. He and his three brothers loved and played hockey for a large part of their lives, which for Fr. Mark gave way to sports like wrestling, boxing, and Tae Kwon Do. From 2001-2005, Fr. Mark attended Ave Maria College in Ypsilanti, Michigan, majoring in both Theology and Philosophy, with a minor in classical languages. He was accepted as a seminarian of the Diocese of Lansing in the summer of 2005, and attended Sacred Heart Major Seminary from 2005-2009, earning the M. Div. and S.T.B. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Earl Boyea on June 13th, 2009, the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua. He was then assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton from 2009-2012. In 2012, he was assigned as Parochial Vicar of Church of the Resurrection in Lansing from 2012-2014. In 2014, he is was assigned as Administrator of St. Mary Catholic Church and school in Williamston, and to study for the J.C.L. in Canon Law at Catholic University of America during the summers. In 2015 he was named pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church and school. In addition, he serves on the Diocese of Lansing Education Board, and is in his fourth year of studies in Canon Law.

Stephan Hilker – Deacon

Deacon Stephen Hilker was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1953 the second eldest of 5 children. As a child, he attended Gesu Grade School in Detroit and as a young man, Detroit Catholic Central. He went on to attend Michigan State University where he earned a B.S. in Psychology and an M.B.A. in Management and has done post-graduate work in accounting. Steve is a CPA and holds a number of other financial certifications. He has studied Public Policy at the Doctoral level at Western Michigan University and is completing a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry from the Josephinum Pontifical University in Columbus, OH.
Deacon Steve recently retired from the State of Michigan after 37 years in various executive positions. Steve answered the call to serve the church as a Deacon on June 30, 1990, after 3 years of Diaconal studies with the Diocese of Lansing. He was ordained by Bishop Kenneth Povish.
Deacon Steve was fortunate enough to have Nancy, his wife, marry him on June 28, 1980. Nancy serves as a teacher and Catechist at St. Mary School. They have 9 children and three grandchildren, Ruth (Ross Hunt, Dallas, TX), John (Catherine, Dubai, U.A.E.), Daniel Hilker, Esq. (Haslett, MI.), Kathleen (Dr. Daniel Durusoy, 3 grandchildren), Mike (Minot, N.D.), Mary (Dallas, TX), David (G.R. MI.), Stephanie 17, and Max 14. Steve and Nancy reside in Haslett.
Steve’s served as a Deacon with St. Thomas Parish in East Lansing prior to transferring to St. Mary Parish in Williamston in early 2008. He serves in the areas of parish administration, liturgy, charitable works (St. Vincent DePaul and KofC), and teaching. There are 127 Deacons in the Diocese of Lansing.
Leslie Floeter – Secretary

Leslie Floeter serves as the secretary for St. Mary Church. She was raised in the
Williamston area with her 10 brothers and sisters and grew up as a member of St. Mary
Church. Leslie attended Western Illinois University where she earned her B.S. in Justice
Administration. Leslie then returned to Michigan where she graduated from Thomas M.
Cooley Law School and earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.). Leslie previously worked for the
office of the Michigan Attorney General.
Leslie currently acts as the Procurator/Advocate for the Parish and as the Chair of the
Hospitality Team. Leslie also works as an Assessor to the Tribunal at the Diocese of

Christy Whiting joined the staff at St. Mary in 2018. Her passion is to introduce people to the Holy Spirit, who fills us with God’s love and empowers us to bring His life-changing love to those around us. Previously she co-founded and directed the Upper Room ministry at Christ the King Parish in Ann Arbor, leading weekly Praise & Worship events, facilitating classes and other special events, and doing social media outreach. She has also done extensive prayer ministry, taught Life in the Spirit Seminars, traveled on mission trips, and ministered to young adults, college students, and teens. Before working full-time in the Church, she was a nanny, taught in a Montessori school, and was the administrator of a pro-life pregnancy resource center. She received her B.S. from Eastern Michigan University with a double major in psychology and (interpersonal) communication. In addition to her work at St. Mary, she is pursuing an M.A. in pastoral studies degree at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. When she’s not working, she loves to spend time with family and friends, enjoy nature, read, and go swing dancing.

Laura Hahnenberg has been a member of St. Mary Parish and became a catechist in the St. Mary School of Religion shortly after she, her husband Nick and young children moved to Williamston in 2006. Laura graduated in 1999 from Franciscan University of Steubenville with a degree in theology with a concentration in catechesis. Joining the youth team is her ever faithful husband and friend Nick, who is great with young people and will complement Laura’s efforts to help the teens encounter Christ more closely in their daily lives. She also oversees and dynamic Confirmation team who helps prepare the 7th and 8th graders to receive the Sacrament. Laura and Nick have five beautiful children, Joseph, Isaac, Miriam and Seth and Zachary. The family is very active together, enjoying a gamut of different types of sports and activities. Laura simply sees youth ministry as expanding her family and is excited to get to know the youth better. Drop in for a visit on Sunday evening during the fall or check out the summer schedule as there are many activities to participate in at the parish for all teens.

Sue Bauer – Director of Music

Mrs. Sue Bauer will plan liturgies, administer the music department, serve as keyboardist for Sunday Masses when there is no choir performing. She will be the keyboardist at the Wednesday 9:00 AM School Mass. She will oversee our experienced Folk Group. Sue has been with the parish since October 2008.
